Project 1 (Mosquito) was originally an internal evaluation project. However, it was so well received that it has been decided to commercialise it. It wasn’t conceived as a road car and will be for track only.
2025 was the 60th anniversary of the Mini Marcos and so it was decided to take the drivetrain and systems from a BMW-era MINI, build a car from that basis, and deliberately channel the original car’s styling. However, doing this over a contemporary MINI track and wheelbase resulted in a muscular stance.
The car was shown in September 2025 at the National Motor Museum, to which Marcos Motor Company is the official engineering partner (they have been working on the twin 22.5-litre engines for 1927 Sunbeam 1000hp world land speed record car which has been restored for its centenary).
To move from a one-off to a commercial proposition the Marcos Motor Company are re-engineering the Mosquito for MSA certification. The resulting car will be completed later this year and will be used in a motor sport environment. Mosquito will be offered as a track day car and for racing in series where it qualifies for entry.
